Leslie Bader Band

Soulful expressive vocals, flute, acoustic and electric guitar, layered over a dynamic hard-edged beat is one way to describe the sounds of the Leslie Bader Band.  Leslie’s passion for music is evident in her ability to access deep emotion and share it in song.  Whether it is through voice or flute, she loves to improvise in the moment and keep it fresh.  A life-long student of music, Leslie is eager to try new instruments, experiment with vocal language and have fun on stage with her band.

The members of Leslie Bader Band combine with a common goal to serve Yellowknife with versatile and entertaining original music and favorites from the likes of Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Bif Naked, and Jethro Tull. A debut CD is in the works.

Leslie Bader Band is:

Leslie Bader (lead vocals, guitar, flute, keyboards, scary versatility on anything)

Leslie Bader

Leslie is from Vancouver Island. Many years of ocean-side campfire jams have led her to the wilds of the North where she now plays with a full band. Songs inspired by the land are born from improvised vocalizing, with meaningful words added later. Leslie's passion for dance comes through in groovy rhythms and emotional intensity. A lover of outdoor performances she has played at the Dawson City and Folk on the Rocks Music Festivals in addition to opening up for Don Ross in Tofino, B.C. Leslie adds flute and percussion to her band and is experimenting with electric guitar.

Al Udell (bass guitar, backup vocals)

Al Udell

Al is from Saskatoon and has been slappin’ bass strings for many many years (we won't say how many or you'll think he's old). Al’s band experience dates back to the Jurassic era (okay he's old!) when he played in a bunch of ol' Saskatchewan-based bands including GBU (that's The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly), Wildfire, Restless, Muffin Hedz (I'm serious!), Critical Mess (get it?), Lost Highway, Sam Hell, Kentucky Fryed, Naked Finnigan and Yellowknife-based bands Jet 30, Stars of Track and Field, (stay with me now), Maggie Skeeter, Anodyne, Rough Touch, and Funk 69 (whew, I need a beer!).  When not playing music, Al likes to skateboard and do goofy things with computers.

Kevin Dunbar (drums and percussion)

Kevin Dunbar

Born and raised in Vancouver, Kevin started playing drums at the age of 7. He was influenced by many great drummers in his younger years including Neil Peart, John Bonham, Bill Bruford and jazz greats Jack Dejohnette and Peter Erskine to name a few. Kevin played in many bands in the Vancouver area until 1994, and then moved to Yellowknife. After getting his journeyman license in the electrical field, Kevin started focusing on playing once again and formed Funk 69 with Greg Nasogaluak and Al Udell (some very funky tunes). Welcome to the band Kev!
