Earth, Rock and Soul!!! A great time was had by the band at Folk on the Rocks starting friday night at the Top Night club. Thanks to all the dancers! The place was busy and the band felt really loose on stage. Thanks for all the great feedback (the good kind) from audience members. To the sailors for their "stage presence" comments, thank you, as it helps me to know that what I do on stage comes across to folks. To the couple with the "pink hair", thank you for your cute little note! Feedback from people really helps us to put on the best show we can. Saturday at the beer garden...what can I say? Music, friends, sunshine and the ubiquitous brew...what could be better? How about ending our set with Rush's Tom Sawyer?!! I got my flute out for the keyboard parts, the whole song led by Al on bass really. And speaking of Al, we unveiled a new tune of his, it's a boppy/heavy number with a working title of "Al's tune". I added vocals, no words yet, but that didn't seem to matter much except to Jason: "great song but I couldn't hear the words!" All our original songs were well received and we got to play longer because the next band wasn't ready (which gave more time for our hung over friends to arrive). Sunday's side stage was a laid back set against the blue of the lake and the cool breeze. Thank to the people who came to listen, considering we were playing at the same time as Fred Eaglesmith! And speaking of Fred, I met him at the CD booth after his awesome performance. I asked to borrow his pen to sign a CD, and I told him I was going to collect my CD's and go home and he said "NO! don't do that! you gotta hang around here and look cute and the guys will buy your CD because they'll think they have a chance with you!" I said I was a newbie at this and then gave him one of my CD's. He opened it up and looked at our band photo and said "see, you got three studs working for you! You'll do great!' Then he gave me one of his CD's. So thanks Fred for the great show and all the tips! And Thanks to the crew of Folk on the Rocks for having us at the festival, it was an awesome time! August 26, 2006 - SSI Micro company party. SSI Micro rocks! Thanks so much for having us. We'd like to thank the following folks for organizing such a great party.
August 12, 2006 - Benefit concert for Rick Poltaruk, Top Knight (top floor of the Black Knight Pub), 4910 - 49th Street. One of Yellowknife's most popular musicians and former President of the Recording Arts Association of the Northwest Territories (RAANT), Rick is currently undergoing medical treatment which isn't covered by health care. It is hoped that the money raised at this concert will allow him to complete his treatment. We are honoured to have played Rick's benefit concert. June 20 - 23, 2006 - Solstice Festival, Yellowknife's celebration of summer. Showtimes:
Playing the park with the sounds of the petting zoo providing backup vocals, and the little kid who asked us if we knew any Led Zeppelin...ah, nice to know that the children are getting the Led out! Ending the night at the Boom Boom Room and watching April P. in the zone was a great way to end the night/morning.
